Octopus is a soft-bodied, eight-limbed mollusk of the order Octopoda. Octopuses have the same jumping genes that are active in the human brain. Strategies to defend themselves against predators include the expulsion of ink, which can be poisonous. Before the ink leaves the funnel, it passes through glands which mix it with mucus, creating a thick, dark blob.
