Portrait of Anita Hashemi Moghaddam

Anita Hashemi Moghaddam

Anita Hashemi Moghaddam, born in 1982, is a visual and interdisciplinary artist based in Iran.

Through video art, installation, and photography, Anita explores and presents her perspective on her personal experiences.

She believes that, although these experiences are deeply personal, they also carry a social dimension that allows viewers to connect with them and find a sense of identification. Every space in which she has lived—with all its wounds, traumas, and moments of joy and difficulty—possesses an external dimension that, despite its many differences, remains familiar to the viewer. It is within this space of familiarity that she finds the point of connection between herself and her audience.

Survival

2026 · Dastan Outside Projects, 8cube Gallery, Tehran, Iran

The video installation Survival explores the persistence of fear and the limitations imposed on the human mind. Inspired by Stockholm Syndrome, the work demonstrates that even after external threats are removed, the mind can remain trapped in captivity, unable to fully experience true freedom.

The piece reflects on the concept of survival—not only as a biological phenomenon, but as a psychological state in which internalized fear guides human behavior.

The meaning of the word survival in the Dehkhoda Dictionary: life and living; remaining in the world; continuing to exist; enduring.
